Delhi Grill is bringing the dhaba experience to London.
Indian “dhabas” are informal canteens where people from all walks of life sit together and enjoy spicy, delicious street food. The choices often vary by day, but are all cooked properly. Most dishes are marinated overnight or slow cooked. The customer wouldn’t accept anything less.
All of our dishes are cooked according to the traditional recipe with no short-cuts or stir-in sauces. There’s just a few options, and some mouth-watering weekly specials.
Our canteen on Chapel Market in Islington serves delicious tandoori wraps at lunchtime from our market stall outside. And in the evening we serve authentic dhaba food in an informal setting.

Food was the best element tonight, slow cooked canteen was their thing and that’s what they did very well, limiting the choice on the menu to refined cuisine is bold.
The railway lamb a real surprise and super delicious. The only thing stopping me from top marks on food was poppadoms and breads – very average. Canteen service style was ok until we had to scrape the scraps off each other plates ready for the dishwasher…Mmm.
For me it’s one of the best so far: 9/10. Small points could so easily be improved for a top mark.

Railway lamb was top notch loved the flavours, tikka starter was also lovely. Agree the naans weren’t the best a bit doughy and not cooked enough for me. Service and ambience were ok. 8/10 from me. 3/10 for the shots bad idea!!

Whilst I enjoyed the food and ambience, I did not find it in any way out of the ordinary. I guess what I’m trying to say is that there was little WOW factor to it all. Not that the food didn’t deserve merit, it was certainly tasty.
Popadoms were crisp and one of the dips, the cold curry sauce, was out of the ordinary. Overall it was passable to good.
Food and breads were good but not great. The curries were exceptionally light, however they lacked complexity baring the railway lamb, whose smokiness was the exception.
Service was passable and price reasonable.
The company was as usual pleasant, but if that eclipses the food then questions need to be answered.
7/10.
